Privacy Policy

What this policy covers
Jales ("we", "us") is a local task marketplace launching in El Paso, Texas. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, who processes it on our behalf, and how to reach us about it.
It covers both the Jales early-access waitlist and the Jales marketplace itself. Jales is not yet open to the public — today most people will only encounter the waitlist.
Information we collect
Early access and the waitlist
When you join the Jales early-access list, we collect:
- your email address;
- whether you want to post tasks or find work, so we know which side of the marketplace you are interested in;
- the launch city the list is for, which is currently El Paso;
- where you came from, when that information is available — a campaign source, medium, name, content or term from the link you followed, and the site or page that referred you;
- when you joined and when you last updated your preference.
We record the referring site and page only. We remove anything after them in the address, such as search terms or tracking parameters belonging to the site you came from, before storing it. We do not build a device fingerprint, and we do not store a browsing history.
Account and profile information
If you create a Jales account, we collect your email address, and your name and profile picture if you choose to sign in with Google. You may add profile information such as a display name, a short bio, your skills and an hourly rate. Contact details such as a phone number are kept in a separate, access-controlled record rather than alongside your public profile.
Marketplace activity
When you use the marketplace we store the tasks you post, the offers you make or receive, assignments, messages with the other party to a job, questions and answers on task pages, reviews, and any dispute you raise. We also store in-app notifications about things that happen on your tasks.
Payment information
Card and bank details are entered directly with Stripe, our payment processor, and Jales never receives or stores them. What we do store is the record of the transaction: a Stripe reference for the payment, the amounts involved, the currency, the payment's status, and when each step happened. Workers who receive payouts complete an onboarding process with Stripe, and we store the identifier of the resulting Stripe account.
Usage and campaign information
We record limited, bounded information about how people reach and use the waitlist — that a page was viewed, that a preference was chosen, that a signup was submitted, or that a submission failed — together with the campaign and referrer information described above. These records are kept by Jales itself; no email address is stored with them.
We do not use an analytics or advertising product. Jales runs no Google Analytics, no Firebase Analytics, no advertising pixel and no third-party tracking or profiling service.
How we use information
- To maintain the El Paso early-access list.
- To understand how many people want to post tasks and how many want to find work, so that both sides of the marketplace are ready at launch.
- To contact you about the Jales launch and your early access. We are not yet sending these emails — your address is collected so that we can.
- To understand which outreach brings people to Jales.
- To create and manage your account and profile.
- To run the marketplace: posting, offers, assignments, messages and reviews.
- To process payments and pay workers, through Stripe.
- To show you in-app notifications about your own tasks.
- To investigate disputes, prevent abuse and fraud, and keep Jales safe.
- To meet legal and recordkeeping obligations.
Who processes information for us
We use a small number of service providers to run Jales. They process information on our behalf so that the product can work.
- Supabase — our main platform. It provides sign-in, the database that holds accounts, marketplace activity and the waitlist, file storage for images such as profile pictures and task photos, and the live updates that make notifications and messages appear without reloading.
- Stripe — payment processing, worker payout accounts, and the handling of card and bank details.
- Google Firebase — no longer used, and no longer holding your data. Jales ran on Firebase before moving to Supabase. In August 2026 the remaining legacy records were deleted: accounts, uploaded files and database records alike. Firebase runs no part of Jales, is not used for signing in, and is not our analytics or messaging provider. A copy of that legacy data is kept encrypted, offline, solely so we can answer questions about what the old system held.
- Vercel and Google Cloud — hosting for the website and for the Jales server, respectively.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with advertising networks or data brokers. Jales runs no advertising.
What other people can see
A task you post is visible to workers who might do it. It shows what you need and the general area, but not your street address. The full address and any access details you provide are released to the assigned worker when the job is confirmed, and are withdrawn again if that assignment ends.
Workers have a public profile page. It shows a chosen display name, profile picture, bio, skills, advertised rate, the city, how long they have been on Jales, how many jobs they have completed, and reviews from customers. It does not show an email address, phone number or street address.
Messages, questions on a task page, and reviews are shared with the people they concern according to how each feature works — a private message goes to the other party to that job, a question on a task page is public, and a review appears on the reviewed person's profile.
How long we keep information
We keep waitlist information for as long as it is reasonably needed to manage Jales early access and launch, to respond to your requests, to prevent abuse, and to meet applicable recordkeeping obligations. You can ask us to delete it — see below.
Account and marketplace records are kept while your account is active and afterwards where we need them, for example to resolve a dispute, to keep financial records, or to comply with the law. Records of payments are kept as financial records.
Your choices and privacy requests
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, such as the right to access it, to correct it, to ask for it to be deleted, or to object to certain uses.
To make a request — including asking to be removed from the waitlist — email us at contact@jales.app. Email is currently the way to reach us about privacy; we do not have a self-service portal. We will need enough information to identify the record you are asking about, and we may need to keep some information where the law requires it.
Cookies and browser storage
When you sign in, your session is kept in your browser's local storage so that you stay signed in. If you start writing a task and leave the page, a draft is also saved locally in your browser so you do not lose it. Clearing your browser storage removes both.
The waitlist page does not create a session and stores nothing in your browser. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Security
Traffic to Jales is encrypted in transit. Waitlist information is stored privately: the website cannot read the list, and joining is handled by a narrowly scoped operation that only accepts an email address, a preference and campaign information. Marketplace data is protected by access rules in the database and by authorization checks on our server, so that people can only reach the records they are entitled to. Card and bank details are handled by Stripe rather than by us.
No service can promise perfect security, and we do not. If we become aware of a breach affecting your information, we will act on it and notify you where we are required to.
Age
Jales is for adults. Our Terms of Service require you to be at least 18 years old to use Jales, and Jales is not directed to children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us at contact@jales.app and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy as Jales changes, and we will move the date at the top when we do. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we will make that clear rather than relying on the date alone.
